Wrx Power Steering Rack Leak

One of the most common issues on the impreza is a leaking steering rack.

Ps pulley stops turning. I believe i ve located the leak and want opinions on what could be the culprit. The picture is the passenger side. A little troubleshooting and i discovered the source the leak is originating from the input shaft coming into the rack and pinion gearbox.

We take 5 8 off each inner and outer it. My 2009 wrx started leaking power steering fluid a couple of months ago at almost 70k miles. Looks like this is a problem with wrx s and sti s. If it is leaking power steering fluid then you ll find yourself finding it hard to steer in no time if you don t keep filling it up.

The 2015 sti has the quickest steering ratio of any subaru product to date it s 13 1 compared to 15 1 on older wrx and sti models. Sometimes on start sometimes when letting off the throttle sometimes when turn hard to either side. Had the lines replaced and was ok until a week or so ago. Power steering pump locks up and results in belt squeal.

On narrow body 2008 2010 wrx models you will have to shorten the tie rod ends. Power steering sometimes stops working without the belt squeal. I was told the power steering rack needs to be replaced 1200. The subaru service manual that i found online states for this.
