A dremel tool has a rotating head with interchangeable bits that you can use to cut and carve a variety of materials.
Wood inlay with dremel.
I use a foredom rotary tool with diamond bits for grinding and refining the inlay shape after cutting.
I wanted a tiny and accurate router base for making inlays and stuff like that its based to dremel circle cutting guide i had one spare and it has nice height adjustment so it made things much easier.
Make the inlays on the tool chest the inlays stand proud of the door face so we prepared a 3 8 x5x24 walnut blank.
I have dremel plunge router and circle cuttin.
I also use a diamond nail file for smoothing edges.
The epoxy gets into them and it s very difficult to get out which is a problem if the pores are on the surface alongside the inlay.
For inlays flush with the surface prepare a 3 16 thick blank clamp the template to the blank shown below.
Use a saw for cutting inlay.
To inlay wood cut the inlay out of a thin piece of wood and use double sided tape to attach it to the other piece of wood.
Big pores like those in red oak can cause problems too.
Now that the outline is cut down you can remove the center material with a chisel.
Have you mastered the routing basics.
Remove the collar from the bushing reset the bit height to 3 16 below the bushing and rout the inlays.
You can but dremel bits at lowe s 9901 or 9902 carbide would be good for hogging out inlay spaces but you d want to use a smaller cutter for fine outlines.
If you want to carve designs or letters into a piece of wood a dremel tool will easily cut through the material and make intricate lines.
